Kuranda Dog Beds
We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.

Hickory Hill Canine Rescue are a private rescue group that have been helping homeless dogs for over 14 years. They are a 501c3 non-profit organisation and rescue dogs from the Hanover County Pound as well as Caroline and King William Pounds. All of these dogs were owned by someone at some time. Those that are given to the pound by their owner have a very short time to find a home. Most of these dogs are picked up as strays but seem housebroken, child friendly, some even know basic commands. Hickory Hill Canine Rescue is their last chance. We have an adoption stand on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at the Mechanicsville PetsMart where you can meet some of the dogs needing homes. See below for details. If you would like to assist the animals in the care of Hickory Hill Canine Rescue please send your donation to the above address or donate via PayPal by clicking here. Hickory Hill Canine Rescue is a 501c3, non profit organization which means your donations are tax deductible.

Thank You for the Donations
We require old blankets, towels, sheets, quilts, pillows, Etc regardless of condition which we use as bedding for the dogs. Of course, any old dog items that you may no longer require such as beds, bowls, leads, toys, tennis balls, Etc are always welcome since some of the dogs destroy these!

Thank you to everyone who has ever donated food, animal supplies, time, money, old blankets, whatever to help a homeless animal. Millions of animals are dying all over the world each and every year. To any rescue organization your donations allow them to continue to rescue and care for some of these animals.

No Squeeky Toys Please
Toys that make a noise when you squeeze them can encourage some dogs to be aggressive towards young children because they squeek too. The device that makes the noise is usually small and can be harmful if swallowed. Some toys of this type contain a small battery which is poisonous if the dog eats it. The best toys are tuggers, tennis balls and hard chew toys that cannot be ripped apart.

Shopping at Amazon?
If you are going to buy something from Amazon please access the Amazon website via our link so that we receive a 0.5% commission. It does not cost you anything extra and will help feed the rescued animals for another day.

Adopting a Friend
All adopters are required to fill out our Adoption Form which will be reviewed before the adoption process can continue. All adopters must be at least 18 years of age. We will adopt out of state but only animals that have already been spayed or neutered. We will not fly any animals under any circumstances. All animals (except puppies) are already altered, current on all vaccinations and heartworm negative and on preventive. All puppies must be neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, current on all shots, heartworm negative and healthy before being available for adoption. This fee helps cover the veterinary costs and allows them to continue saving and caring for these unfortunate animals.

When looking for that new family member please remember to really think about the things you and your family want and need in a pet that fits the family lifestyle. Get to know your breeds! Some breeds require more space, exercise and circumstances than others. Even if you are going to adopt a mixed breed, look into what it's primary breed needs in a home, environment and exercise. Your new family member needs to be wanted by everyone in the family and included in your daily lives to be truly happy. Click here for more information on how to find the right dog.
