Adopting a friendPlease check the Pet List daily for new photos, and call the pound at 740-533-1736 for the most recent up dates. Please be respectful to the Dog Warden and his staff. It is their cooperation that allows dogs to be posted on this site! The pound is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. except holidays. If you want a dog that is currently listed, please adopt or rescue the dog before 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $30. A kitten is $10 and a cat is $15. All Lawrence County residents must purchase a Dog License with the adoption of any dog or puppy. The pound is not able to comply with requests to hold dogs. Dogs are adopted out to the public on a first come, first served basis. This means the first person to actually come to the pound to adopt the dog, not just see the dog or play with the dog or talk about the dog, will be the one to receive the dog. You must first complete an application and the dog MUST be spayed/neutered before leaving the custody of the facility. All dogs will be spayed and neutered before adoption and some vaccinations and worming are available through the local Animal Welfare League. Please inquire about these programs prior to adoptions to insure the availability. We are a very rescue friendly organization and will be happy to release dogs to approved rescues. Foster Homes Urgently Needed
Why do we have so few animals for adoption? Because we have nowhere to put them! We need temporary homes where we can keep dogs that have lost their homes. This will be temporary foster care while we screen adopters through internet contacts. The Humane Society will work with foster care providers and pay all medical expenses. If you like dogs but for some reason you cannot keep a dog permanently or would like to try out caring for a dog before making the commitment to adopt then fostering could be ideal for you. You must have a securely fenced yard to foster a dog. If you are willing to foster a dog or cat and live in the tri-state area please e-mail email@example.com
