Notes:
A very regal looking boy who is an absolute softie and woose! Bebe has progressed in leaps and bounds in the
5 months we have been fostering him. However he does have some problems which his new home must be aware of
and be prepared to continue to work with.
Bebe was had a very rough start, malnourished and terrified of everything and everyone. He needs a calm home
environment with owners who have experience of the breed and/or problem dogs. Once you have his trust you can
do anything with him, but this takes time and patience. We are undertaking a regime of socialisation with different
people and surroundings, this will need to be continual and long term if he is to overcome his fear
of people. Bebe is also attending training classes which he is now able to take part in, rather than
cowering and wetting himself which he did at first.
Bebe has a fear response and will sometimes
lunge, nip and then retreat, this is why he cannot be placed in a home with children as he currently finds
children very frightening. This response seems to occur when some people enter the house and occasionally
outside when he is on the lead and cannot avoid others.
Bebe has learnt the delight of toys, treats,
play, licking plates in the dishwasher, human touch and now adores massage. Bebe current favourite toys
are his large tennis balls especially if they squeak and his is now learning to ‘fetch’, bring them back
and drop at your feet. He also loves soft toys and tuggy ropes. He loves to stretch out on the bed to watch
TV with us, flat on his back gently snoring. This is a huge change from a frightened pup who would move
away and cower when anyone got within 4 feet of him.
Bebe is bright and has now learnt the following
commands: sit, down, give me your paw, no, leave, this way, up. We are now starting to teach him 'wait'
and 'stay' and getting him to apply the other commands when outside in differing situations. Bebe is learning
not to pull on the lead, and is improving. Once you have his trust he is eager to please and learn and just
wants to be with you. Bebe loves to lie near your feet if you work at a desk, or next to you, or even
better lean and lie against you.
Bebe needs owners with whom he can bond closely and become a loyal
friend and a household that does not have children or cats. As Bebe is sensitive and finds things
frightening, his training needs to be gentle but firm and consistent. When Bebe is with us or just
with our dog he is reasonably calm and does not mind being left for a couple of hours. If he is left
in a room by himself or for more than a couple of hours he panics, and will frantically try to get out
and gnaw the door and frame. We are working with this, but again it will take time and he may possibly
never be fully comfortable with being left alone for more than a very short time.
Bebe is a gorgeous
boy that has so much love and loyalty, who deserves a special forever home, and with patience, time and
training he will be your devoted friend for life.
