Second Chance Pet Rescue of Winnipeg, Manitoba are a small group located in the Winnipeg area of Canada that is dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs from neglected, helpless situations. We have rescued a few felines, bunnies and reptiles as well. We rarely take in owner surrenders and have rescued most of our animals from kill shelters just before their time was up. Since we do not have a public facility, "foster parents" bring these animals into their homes where they are lovingly cared for, rehabilitated, socialized and carefully placed with compatible people who are willing to be their lifelong friend. Second Chance Pet Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill, all-volunteer group and all of our expenses for the basic care, medical attention, food, etc. for our rescues are paid for directly by the members of Second Chance and those of you who generously donate to help these precious animals.

100% not for profit and to date have relied solely on donations from the public. We rescue dogs and cats from the streets, as well as from “death row” at municipal shelters (predominantly NYC Animal Care & Control) around New York City. Before coming to us, most of the animals that we rescue have been abandoned or abused/neglected; a large number have serious medical issues and require immediate, emergency veterinary care. We protect and ensure the long-term well-being of these rescued animals by placing them in foster homes or private boarding facilities, where they are rehabilitated and cared for until a permanent home can be found. We do not have a ‘physical’ shelter and we rely on private individuals and volunteers to take the animals into their homes and give them the essential care and proper socialization that are needed to make them adoptable family pets. We are very passionate about our work; loving and caring for these animals unconditionally. All animals are transported to private veterinarians for proper medical treatment prior to adoption. All of our rescued animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm tested before they are placed into new loving homes.

We are a licensed 501(c)3 dog rescue. We work with shelters, other rescues, private owners and breeders, taking in dogs that need to find new homes for whatever the reason. When a dog comes into Second Chance, his future begins. The dog's past is over. Our first goal for a new dog is to work with our veterinarian, Dr. Burke, to get the dog as healthy as possible. We then work on socializing the dogs, potty training, basic commands and leash training. We offer the dogs for adoption as soon as possible so their time in rescue is as short as it can be. We believe that ALL dogs should be given the opportunity for a second chance for a new life and work toward each dog attaining that goal.

Second Chance Animal Rescue has many long term animals in need of specialized homes. We have a horse, some chipmunks and several special needs cats and dogs who can only be adopted by people with the right knowledge and the right environment for these long termers. If you would like to donate to help keep these animals while we are searching for their new homes, please click here.

We are in real need of foster homes at the moment. We have a couple of dogs that need to be in a home enviroment to be brought on to enable them to be rehomed. They are not aggresive in any way but we feel a place with no young children would suit, another dog would be OK. A fairly quiet, calm enviroment would be best for them.

Wherever possible we try and find a new forever home for the rescued animals we take in. Should we not be able to re-home any animal then they are allowed to live out there life at the Rescue. SCAR never puts a fit, healthy animal to sleep. SCAR's ethos "live and let live”. The rescued animals may have suffered prior to reaching SCAR so should be allowed to have a happy life enjoying freedom and enrichment that SCAR has to offer. The rescue survives solely on donations and help from our team of volunteers.

A Second Chance Rescue Cambridgeshire area, UK

Email: Click here for contact form

We are a small rescue based in the Cambridgeshire area, run solely on the hard work of our volunteers. Most of the dogs that come into our care are either surrendered by their owners, or are pulled from the many pounds across the UK. The majority of our dogs are placed in foster homes as soon as possible, and assessed prior to homing. Sometimes it is necessary for dogs to be boarded until a foster home is found, and this costs the rescue roughly £40 a week, per dog! We aim to rescue and rehome as many dogs as possible, but we cannot do this without the dedication of our fosters and volunteers, working tirelessly to help the dogs and raise vital funds. If you would be interested in joining us by becoming a foster home or a volunteer please contact us. We cover all costs involved with fostering, such as vet bills, food etc., and we offer full support and back up should you need us.
