Owner surrendered dogs and dogs that have expired stray hold, are available for adoption/rescue for seven days (from the 'available date' to the 'last guaranteed day'). If they are still at the shelter after the 'last guaranteed day', we will re-evaluate for space in the shelter for incoming stray dogs, individual temperament, Etc. *If you are interested in a particular dog please contact us A.S.A.P. even before the available date. Please Donate to Help the Dogs and Cats
Every year our shelter takes in thousands of animals in need from Galax, Carroll and Grayson counties. On average, we use around 25 lbs of dry dog food, 10 lbs of cat food, 5 cans of dog food, 12 cans of cat food, and 15 lbs. of litter daily. We also wash around 2 loads of laundry a day, and house an average of 40ish animals at any given time. Our staff is small, but dedicated to saving lives, and we cannot do it alone. I just would like to thank the community for all the donations and support the shelter receives to be able to care for these fur-babies. We could not do this without you! We have put together a list of things needed at the shelter in case anyone would like to help out. Thank you so much in advance for always supporting us in taking care of all the wonderful babies we have. A big thank you for everyone who has already donated to us.

We need:

• Dry dog food - prefer Purina, Pedigree or anything that does not have red coloring in it,


• Puppy Chow (canned),


• Large puppy potty pads,


• Canned kitten food (pate),


• Canned Cat Food,


• Canned Dog Food,


• Dry adult cat food,


• Adult dry dog food (21/12 from Johnson Bros, Surry preferred),


• Kitten Replacement Milk,


• Kitten bottles,


• Pill pockets,


• Cat Litter (Pine/Cedar bedding pellets),


• Newspaper (not magazines),


• 13 Gallon Trash Bags,


• Paper towel,


• Laundry detergent,


• Lysol Soap (orange or lemon preferred),


• Unscented bleach,


• Dawn dish soap,


• Towels,


• Wash cloths,


• Blankets,


• Office supplies,


• Plastic dog beds
• Leashes,


• Collars/Harnesses,

• New or Unused Pet Crates and Dog Houses,

No Squeeky Toys Please
Toys that make a noise when you squeeze them can encourage some dogs to be aggressive towards young children because they squeek too. The device that makes the noise is usually small and can be harmful if swallowed. Some toys of this type contain a small battery which is poisonous if the dog eats it. The best toys are tuggers, tennis balls and hard chew toys that cannot be ripped apart.
